In a country with such a bloody history it is little wonder that there are many supernatural goings on all across Scotland. For those who enjoy exploring this more unusual activity here are 5 suggested trips you should do and the items you will need to take with you.
Rosslyn Chapel

Made famous after the Dan Brown book The Da Vinci Code this chapel has long be rumored to haunted by the Sinclair family who originally built it. There is said to be a burning flame in the crypt when a Sinclair is about to die. For this journey you need not take any equipment or food as it is centrally located nearby to Edinburgh and will be at the same temperature as the capital. One place to visit, but perhaps not if your a Sinclair!
Culloden Moor

The site of a slaughter of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebel army there are many monuments to the fallen. But with such mass death on one location it is a hotbed of paranormal activity. Many visitors claim to see figures of the fallen still walking this patch of land today and even when no visual apparitions come forward you can sense the feeling of loss and sorrow. To visit this site I would suggest you wrap warm as it is an open and expansive place which is frequently windy, sensible shoes are a must due to the sodden ground underneath.
Edinburgh Vaults

It is said that the vaults, originally built for business and workspaces quickly become slum housing, were a regular haunt of the famous Burke and Hare who snatched their victims in these slums selling the corpses to local Universities. These vaults have been the location for many televised paranormal investigations and attract thousands of visitors to Edinburgh every year. There are many regular ghost tours which venture into these vaults and give you some of the darker stories associated with them. If you are attending these ghost tours why not dress up, with fun and scares galore join in the fun with your own scary mask. These tours usually end at a nearby pub so be prepared for a good night out with traditional music and samples of whisky!
Dechmont Woods Livingston

Whilst Scotland may be more famous for ghosts and poltergeists there is a great place to visit that was the site of an alien abduction. Livingston which is based to the West of Edinburgh is home to Dechmont woods which cover a huge area which is free for the public to walk through and adventure. You can find a plaque which relays all the facts of this abduction. Walking through the woods you can really feel the presence of something and it is a must for any thrill seekers. Dress warm and wear some walking boots as this can take you sometime. Avoid going at weekends as there will likely be some local teenagers hanging around.
Yester Castle, East Lothian

This sight is also known as Goblin Ha which is a series of underground tunnels beneath the ruins of Yester Castle. This castle was home to a famous Warlock or Wizard Hugo de Giffard and it is unknown as to the use of these underground tunnels. He was reported to have had a pact with the devil to allow him to raise army of hobgoblins to do his bidding, these goblins built the underground vaults. A visit to this site should be taken with some food and some warm clothing, now a ruin it is very cold and if you brave the trip you may be walking for a couple of hours. There are lots of lovely small villages nearby that will provide you a warm bed or a nice hot meal. Why not try out Sunny Dunny your sure to find some fantastic food and local banter.
