Unwind After a Long Week With These Five Weekend Vacation Destinations

Sometimes five days stuffed into an office feels like five months, and you’re in desperate need of an escape. If you don’t have the time to take a full-on vacation, you can still sneak away for a weekend to one of these great destinations. A quick recharge of your internal battery can lead you to be much more productive in your every day life.

    New Orleans

If you’re in the mood for a great city getaway, the unique culture of the Big Easy might just be what the doctor ordered. The famous French Quarter offers plenty of things to do, whether you’re in the mood for shopping, food, or history. Make sure that you take advantage of the city’s flavorful cuisine. A cruise on a riverboat on the Mississippi River couldn’t hurt, either. Riverboats can be a great way to unwind like the early settlers on the land.

    Boston

Another city to put on your list of potential weekend vacation spots is Boston. The city is a dream for history buffs. Weather permitting, you can stroll along the 2 ½ mile Freedom Trail and feast your eyes on more than a dozen sites from the Revolutionary War era. If you’re a fan of seafood, you can’t miss out on Boston’s culinary scene. New England clam chowder, anyone?

    Sedona

If you’re sick of the urban world after a long, hectic week at the office, head West to Sedona, Arizona. With a population hovering around 10,000, it’s a small city with big things to offer to guests. This destination is great any time of the year since Sedona has oodles of sunshine and mild temperatures. Let the awe-inspiring red-rock formations steal your breath away. You can spend one day of your weekend exploring the beauty of the Sedona community, and the next day you can hit the road and drive a couple of hours north to the Grand Canyon.

    Olympic Peninsula

Do you want to get in touch with nature that features a little more green? Before you take off on your vacation, look online for deals on Orbitz rental cars. You’ll need a car for exploring the unrivaled beauty of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

Take in the beaches at Port Townsend, see the marvels at Webster’s Woods Art Park, and browse the friendly Port Angeles Farmer’s Market. A stop at the Olympic National Park is a must as well, where you can learn about the history of the region and take in the marvels of the rain forest.

    Lake Tahoe

A short stay at the stunning Lake Tahoe is perfect for getting in touch with nature after a week of nose-to-the-grindstone work. You can go any season. Winter is fantastic for skiing and snowboarding, but Summer has plenty to offer, as well. Take a relaxing drive around the lake, gape at the historical lakeside lodges, and maybe even catch part of the annual Shakespeare Festival. If you don’t mind a crowd, you can go there during the Fourth of July weekend and see one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the western United States.

If you’re aching for a vacation but only have a couple of days to spare, don’t sweat it. There are plenty of places you can go to unwind so you can come back to work feeling refreshed on Monday. These are relatively inexpensive if you book through a website that includes lodging, flight, and rental car.
