2013 is the year for exotic vacations to places that travelers have only dreamed of visiting. Rugged, less-traveled destinations with unique activities and opportunities for a great value, price-wise are what interests vacationers this year. Check out these hot destinations for 2013:
Iceland offers amazing scenery, great value for the money, and one-of-a-kind activities. The wildlife tours offer glimpses of animals like whales and puffins that most people only see in a zoo, in their natural habitats, and the rugged landscape is breathtaking. There are mountains to hike or ski down, and river or lagoon tours to experience. Iceland is a great outdoors vacation for the nature-loving globetrotter, at a more affordable price than other rustic destinations.

Turkey is an amazing cultural travel opportunity that is becoming more popular and affordable with the addition of new budget airlines in the southeast part of the country. Rich in history and fabulous architecture, Turkey is a great destination for the history buff traveler. A newly popular tourist attraction is the recently discovered archeological ruins of Göbekli Tepe, near the city of Sanliurfa. Turkey is also well-known for delicious, diverse food and the broad range of different backdrops available. The Aegeon beaches and the metropolis of Istanbul are only two of the many settings available in lush Turkey, with current theatre news being a huge hit in the big cities.
Ecuador is an up-and-coming traveling destination, especially since the country’s railways are due to have drastic renovations in 2013, connecting the metropolitan capital, Quito with the coastal port-city of Guayaquil. The new railways will also make reachable Cotopoxi, the almost-20,000 foot high volcano. This stretch of railway will be the steepest in the western world. Also increasingly popular in Ecuador are sight-seeing tours of the Amazonian rainforest and the sky-scraping Andes mountains.
The Maldives are a chain of islands, Asia’s smallest country, with beaches of pristine white sand and crystal-blue lagoons. One of the most luxurious, remote vacation destinations of 2013, the Maldives features gorgeous beaches, quiet lagoons, and not much else, besides rest and relaxation. There are several luxury resorts sprinkled throughout the islands, and with those, activities that feature the best of the Maldives, including snorkeling through sunken prehistoric volcanoes-turned-coral reefs and cliff diving into the clear, turquoise-blue, warm waters of lagoons spattered among the pristine, and undisturbed islands.
Crimea is located at the southeastern point of Ukraine, surrounded by the Black Sea. The weather is very temperate, making the summers and springs a good time to visit. Culture is rich and deep in Crimea, with amazing architectural features such as The Khan’s Palace, built in the 16th century. Massandra is ripe with vineyards that were built in the 19th century to make wine for the lat Russian tsar, Nicholas II. Take a wine-tasting tour to experience some of the best of this unique destination.
