It’s great to explore the UK. There are so many places on our doorstep which people simply don’t go to in favour of planning a package holiday to the south of Spain or further afield. However, Britain has some fantastic holiday destinations for you and the family to enjoy. True to the country’s reputation for eccentricity there are also lots of out-of-the-ordinary holidays to choose from up and down this green and pleasant land.
Here are a few of the best.
Treehouse Adventure
Such is the demand for holidays of this nature, there is a whole website devoted to woodland holidays. There is something truly magical about waking up suspended in their air and with ensuite bathrooms and plush interior designs you don’t have to live without a certain level of luxury either. Beware though- you may be asked to recreate such treehouses in the garden at home.
Titanic opulence
You have two opportunities to enjoy the luxury of the ill-fated Titanic in Liverpool. The Titanic Hotel deals in high end suites which will transport you back to the days of excitement and grandeur that those aboard the famous vessel enjoyed before it’s untimely demise. The other Titanic-themed house boat on Liverpool’s Albert Dock is slightly less extravagant but still provides the wow factor.
Wonderful Windmills
There are various delightfully quirky converted windmills across the UK. If you are looking for an unusual B&B along this vein you can holiday in any of the following locations: Bradford on Avon, Devon, Monmouthshire, and Norfolk.
Gothic Luxury
Edinburgh’s Witchery by the Castle has it all – plush interior decoration, fantastic setting and an interesting history. The hotel under the entrance to Edinburgh Castle has eight uniquely luxurious rooms and a thoroughly theatrical atmosphere. It painted and gilded ceilings alone are worth the (admittedly fairly high) room rates.
Lighthouse
You are guaranteed an excellent vantage point when you wake up inside a lighthouse. B&Bs like the West Usk Lighthouse has great views out to sea and provides a wonderfully cosy place to stay. The lighthouse on Clare Island in County Mayo also has a Sauna Suite – something that I’m sure wasn’t enjoyed by the first tenant of the building in 1806.
Go Back in Time
While fun family trips to places like Pontins (UK Breakaways run excellent deals on these holidays) have a proud British heritage, it is possible to have an even more authentic historical holiday experience. The website Historvius offers holidays of historical significance in the UK and further afield.
Be the King (and Queen) of the Castle
If historical holidays are your bag, then you can’t get more impressive than the Camelot Castle Hotel in Cornwall. The legendary birthplace of King Arthur offers fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean and has a real air of old English romance about it.
