Puglia is a large, stunning and charming Italian region that attracts millions of visitors every year, who stay in various types of accommodation. Puglia is located on the heel of Italy and, should you be considering a vacation here, there are several towns that you might wish to visit.

    Alberobello

The accommodation in Alberobello is distinct from other areas of Italy, as far as accommodation goes. Puglia boasts some lovely buildings throughout the region, however the trulli that are situated here are very famous. These homes give the town a beautiful appearance. Typically, a trulli will have a cylindrical base and a limestone tiled conical roof. Although they were constructed without cement, the dense white washed stone walls ensure cool temperatures during the summer, and warm temperatures during the winter. Often, the roofs are painted with a cross, an astronomical symbol or an evil eye and topped with a decorative flourish.

There are tiny streets to explore in Alberobello, which are lined with fascinating shops, and the dining options are numerous. Also, Alberobello is a deserved inclusion on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

    Gallipoli

Situated in the west of Puglia, Gallipoli is another excellent choice for those who are searching for some nice accommodation. Puglia has several picturesque towns, but Gallipoli is definitely among the most appealing. Discover the historical Old Town, that is set on an island connected to by a seventeenth century bridge. Also, there are many Baroque churches to see, and you might wish to spend some time unwinding on La Spiaggia della Purita beach.

    Lecce

The town of Lecce has a lengthy and colourful history, and there are many intriguing historical sights to see here. Among these are the Norman Church of Saints Cataldo and Niccolo, with its’ attractive façade, the twelfth century Duomo with its’ high bell tower, Basilica di Santa Croce that has a façade which many would say is unrivalled anywhere else in Italy, and Castello di Carlo V, which dates back to the sixteenth century.

All in all, Leece is a graceful, lively university town, filled with antique shops, furniture restorers and upmarket boutiques. It is handy for both the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, and it is a fantastic base for discovering the Penisola Salentina.

    Locorotondo

It is easy to stroll around the centre of the lovely Locorotondo, and everywhere you look you will notice white washed buildings and enjoy a very relaxed ambiance. Highlights of this area include the Madonna della Greca Church and the Church of Saint George. Aside from this though, the primary attraction here is just to walk around and take everything in.

    Discovering the Region’s Delights

In Puglia, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to the local cuisine. Burrata is a tasty mozzarella filled with grated local cheese and cream. Pettola is a dough ball, which is lovely when accompanied with grape must. You can wash all of this down with some local red wine, which is particularly recommended. For seafood, you can dine close to the beach, where the red prawns and gamberi rossi are fantastic.

If you are considering a holiday to Italy and you want to find some accommodation, Puglia might be the perfect option for you. The towns mentioned above are just a few of the many areas you could choose to go and see, or indeed use as your base once you arrive here for your vacation.

Whether you choose Gallipoli, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Lecce or somewhere entirely different, Puglia will offer you a relaxing vacation in picturesque surroundings, where you will be able to sample the best of Italy.
